Life has been buzzing along so quickly that Jazianzza and I completely forgot to share the exciting news that today is World Bee Day. Jazi is grateful that in 2017 the United Nations designated this day to bring awareness of the incredible importance of her brothers and sisters, as well as other pollinators worldwide.

Why May 20th<\/sup>? That was the birthdate of Anton Jansa, a Slovenian beekeeper born in 1734 who was the pioneer of modern beekeeping. Born into\u00a0a family of beekeepers in Slovenia he experienced a natural fascination with them from childhood. He revolutionized the field of beekeeping, teaching his scientific discoveries and observations throughout the region, and wrote two books on beekeeping which are still considered basic reading for every new beekeeper. Thank you, Anton!

What are some things we can do this weekend, or this year to celebrate World Bee Day? Of course, we can plant pollinator-friendly plants, especially native plants, and refrain from using poisonous pesticides.

But Jazianzza\u2019s special request is that we take the time to really\u00a0notice\u00a0<\/em>bees, to watch them flying from flower to flower, and to share this with young ones. She\u2019s asking us to help children be interested in, rather than fearful of bees so that they will become good stewards as they grow older. Appreciation instead of fear goes a long way, whether it be for others who look different than us, or for the natural world in general. The more we can understand one another, the more we will naturally want to support one another.

Lastly, just for the heck of it, Jazi asked me to include some bee crafts that you all might enjoy doing. I buzzed around the internet a bit and found this fun little website. Enjoy!
